Veneers are often used to correct aesthetic issues with a patient’s smile. While they do have many cosmetic benefits, veneers can also protect your natural teeth from additional or extensive damage.
Veneers are typically either composed of porcelain or composite material. Before bonding them to the surface of your teeth, your dentist will check to make sure the colour of the veneer matches the colour of your teeth so your smile is as natural-looking as possible. Once the colour has been matched, they’re carefully bonded to your teeth using dental cement.
What Are Veneers?
Dental veneers are thin, tooth-coloured shells made of either porcelain or composite materials. They’re bonded to the surface of your permanent teeth to aesthetically improve your smile.
Veneers are used to treat a variety of aesthetic issues such as discoloured teeth, and crooked, chipped, or broken teeth. Some patients choose to get veneers simply to improve the overall appearance of their smile.
How Are Veneers Placed?
Our dentists will first create a mould of your teeth to have accurate veneers created for you. Once the veneers are back from the lab, we’ll take the time to make sure they’re a proper fit, and that they’re the right size and colour.
Our dental specialists will then professionally clean your teeth. This prevents bacteria from being trapped beneath the veneers and puts you at risk for cavities and other oral health issues. Once your teeth are clean, your dentist will roughen the surface so the veneers can stick.
Veneers are bonded using dental cement. Ultraviolet light will then harden the veneer to attach it securely to your tooth. Once this process has been completed for every veneer, you can enjoy your new smile almost instantly!
